HCW@Home is developed by Iabsis SARL, a Swiss software company. It began as a fork of HUG@Home, co-developed with the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), which ran tens of thousands of remote consultations on it during COVID-19. Iabsis later released the code as open source under GPLv3 and maintains it publicly on GitHub, with V6 a full rewrite of the platform.
- Runs as its own stack (backend, clinician app, patient app); earlier versions require MongoDB, so budget for an extra database alongside Ozone's MySQL/PostgreSQL services.
- Video needs a reachable media path: public HTTPS with a valid certificate, plus STUN/TURN (or the LiveKit media server in V6) and the matching UDP ports open on the firewall.
- Patient invitations need an SMS gateway and an SMTP account configured before go-live.
- Connect it to Ozone's Keycloak as an OIDC client so clinicians sign in with the same Ozone credentials.
- Plan bandwidth per concurrent call, and object storage (S3-compatible) if consultation recording is enabled.
