Odoo is developed by Odoo S.A., founded by Fabien Pinckaers in Belgium in 2005 (originally as TinyERP/OpenERP). The company releases a major version every year and works with a large partner network and the Odoo Community Association (OCA), which maintains hundreds of free modules. Odoo Community Edition is open source under LGPLv3, while Odoo Enterprise adds proprietary modules under a paid licence.
- Ozone uses Odoo Community Edition; Enterprise-only modules are not included or supported by the integration.
- Odoo connects to OpenMRS through Ozone's integration layer (EIP routes), using Odoo's XML-RPC API; the main flows are patients to customers and orders to quotations.
- Odoo and ERPNext are alternative ERP options in Ozone; pick one per deployment.
- Each orderable drug or test in OpenMRS needs a matching product in Odoo, with prices in pricelists.
- Runs on Python with its own PostgreSQL database; custom or additional addons can be supplied through Ozone's addons override setting.
- Odoo versions are not upgrade-compatible by default; moving to a new major version needs a migration plan, especially with custom modules.
