SENAITE is an open-source project led by RIDING BYTES (Austria) and naralabs (Spain), with contributions from a worldwide community. It is a modern successor to Bika LIMS, rebuilt on the Python-based Plone/Zope framework. The software is released under the GPLv2 licence, and the core team also offers commercial support and hosting.
- SENAITE is Ozone's default lab system, connected to OpenMRS through Ozone's integration layer (EIP routes); orders and results are exchanged automatically.
- Every orderable test in OpenMRS needs a matching analysis service in SENAITE; keep both catalogues in sync through Ozone configuration.
- The OpenMRS lab order basket is configured to send orders to SENAITE; patients are created in SENAITE as clients/patients on first order.
- Data sits in the Zope object database (ZODB), not SQL: back it up with SENAITE's own tools and use Ozone's restore profile to recover.
- Reporting on lab data is easiest through Ozone Analytics/Superset rather than querying SENAITE directly.
- SENAITE and OpenELIS Global are alternative lab options; choose one per facility.
